What is your source of happiness? The twentieth-century
mathematician and philosopher Bertrand Russell ends his
book the Conquest of Happiness with this conclusion:

The happy man is the man whose personality is neither divided against itself nor pitted against the world. Such a man feels himself a citizen of the universe, enjoying freely the spectacle that it offers and the joys that it affords, untroubled by the thought of death because he feels himself not really separate from those who will come after him.

It is in such profound instinctive union with the stream of life that the greatest joy is found.

Happiness may have different sources for different people, but one concept is repeated in the writings of philosophers, seers, and Doctor Quimby. A modern seer, L. R. Hubbard wrote:

Happiness is the overcoming of not unknowable obstacles toward a known goal.

The philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer made a similar observation:

To overcome difficulties is to experience the full delight of existence.
